What to Expect

Colby UMC is a safe place to bring your questions and curiosities, regardless of your background. You will find a community of people who want to experience God and each other.

The Basics...

Colby UMC is a "come as you are" church. You'll see a mix of casual clothing: jeans and T-shirts, some people bike to worship and dress accordingly. A few folks like wearing skirts or jackets. Ties are scarce. Dress however you are comfortable.

What's available for my kids?

Children are always welcome in worship. Silence and stillness are not expected!

(If you prefer, there is a caring, background-checked nursery care provider for preschool age children. School-age kids worship with their families for the beginning of worship and then have the option of going to Sunday School, or returning to their seats for the rest of worship).

Prayer and Music...

What if I need prayer?

We all do! We lift up joys and concerns of the community each Sunday in worship. There are yellow prayer request cards in each pew for people to add particular requests. Fill out a card (you can note whether you want it read aloud or only the pastor to see it) and put it in the offering plate. Then, the whole community lifts our hearts together in prayer later in worship.

What type of music will there be?.

Our worship includes traditional music accompanied on piano and sometimes organ. We also have a choir that sings regularly and is always open to new singers.

And the rest...

Will I be asked to give money?

For guests, your presence is a gift to US. Please don't feel any obligation to give. If you would like to offer a gift as an act of worshiping God, you may.  If you note a charity of your choice to receive the donation, and we'll see it gets there.

How long do the worship experiences last?

Our worship experiences will last approximately one hour, followed by coffee and fellowship downstairs.
